Client reviews, suitability reports, the lot. The trouble is, this data is often incomplete, wrong, or missing altogether. And because\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0tucked away in practice management systems, firms naturally assume\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0all tickety-boo.\u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What we found was a bit of a shock<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We decided to dig into this properly, so we looked at 14 advice firms \u2013 over 10,000 policies and 200,000 transactions. The results were worse than\u00a0we&#8217;d\u00a0expected:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A third<\/strong>\u00a0of policies\u00a0weren&#8217;t\u00a0showing in\u00a0the advisers back-office system\u00a0at all<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Even when they were there,\u00a0<strong>only 40%<\/strong>\u00a0had contributions and withdrawals that\u00a0actually matched<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some firms were seeing reconciliation accuracy drop\u00a0<strong>below 20<\/strong>%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, the firms we spoke to\u00a0weren&#8217;t\u00a0naive;\u00a0they knew\u00a0there would be some gaps. But this scale? Nobody saw that coming. And\u00a0here&#8217;s\u00a0the thing: when these mismatches work their way into annual reviews or cashflow calculations,\u00a0they&#8217;re\u00a0directly undermining the advice process. It&#8217;s\u00a0a simple question:\u00a0if the contributions and withdrawals are wrong, how can the client&#8217;s report be right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>This\u00a0isn&#8217;t\u00a0just a numbers game<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Different firms handle this data differently. Some use it\u00a0mainly for\u00a0annual reviews, others push\u00a0it\u00a0directly\u00a0into their financial planning tools. But\u00a0here&#8217;s\u00a0what they all have in common:\u00a0<strong>they need this data to accurately reflect\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0actually happening\u00a0with their clients&#8217; money<\/strong>. Especially now, with Consumer Duty breathing down everyone&#8217;s necks around transparency and fair outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem is, plenty of firms are\u00a0writing\u00a0reports and making recommendations based on data that bears no resemblance to\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0actually sitting\u00a0on the platform.\u00a0Nobody&#8217;s\u00a0doing it on purpose, but that\u00a0doesn&#8217;t\u00a0make the consequences any less real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>So,\u00a0we built something to fix it<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s\u00a0where\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>contributions and withdrawals app<\/strong>\u00a0comes\u00a0in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.transact-online.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transact<\/a> commissioned it, and we developed it\u00a0in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intelliflo.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">intelliflo\u00a0office<\/a> practice management software.\u00a0What it does is\u00a0pretty straightforward;\u00a0it spots the differences between\u00a0what&#8217;s\u00a0on the investment platform and what\u00a0someone&#8217;s\u00a0manually keyed into\u00a0their back-office system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>It&#8217;s\u00a0been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intelliflo.com\/our-partners\/integrated-partners\/?_s=transact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">launched\u00a0on the\u00a0intelliflo\u00a0store<\/a>\u00a0with the\u00a0idea to give advisory firms\u00a0a simple way\u00a0to compare and sort out these discrepancies without creating yet another\u00a0long-winded and complicated\u00a0process to manage. We\u00a0didn&#8217;t\u00a0want to just point out the\u00a0problem,\u00a0we wanted to\u00a0actually help\u00a0solve it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>It comes down to trust<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s\u00a0how we see it: sorting out this data\u00a0isn&#8217;t\u00a0really about\u00a0technology;\u00a0it&#8217;s\u00a0about looking after clients properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These days, advisers need to back up their recommendations with solid data. They need to explain performance using data.
